A whole new way to buy the guitar of your dreams
A lot has changed over the past thirty something years since I decided that this was something I wanted to do with my life. This new site will hopefully reflect what has brought me to this point.
A while back I came to a realization... as much as I love
building simple guitars, what really excites me is inlay work and building from the
rarest and most exotic woods available. The Custom Shop at
Leach Guitars is the place where I fulfill that love affair. Here I hope
to push the limits of what can be done with a simple jewelers saw and some
of nature's greatest artwork. The guitars that can be ordered here are
built from my personal stash of woods that I have collected over the years
and woods purchased specifically with one-of-a-kind heirloom quality
guitars in mind. The base prices reflect woods and options often offered
in the industry as top-level up-grades. As you'll see below, Custom Shop guitars can be ordered with simple
appointments or as "canvases" for my other true love
cutting edge inlay work. Combined I feel these guitars will one day be a
proud legacy.
As Jim Olson once told me, "I don't know why you mess around with
simple guitars, there are plenty of us doing that. If I could do inlays
like you, that's all I'd do."
Well Jim, here I go.
The Custom Shop at Leach guitars is about
creating guitars that are looked at as heirloom quality art as well as
functional, professional sounding musical instruments. My dream is to
create instruments with options beyond anything that has ever been
available to the buying public. I don't expect some of the things that I
create here to appeal to everyone; in fact, since they are one-of-a-kind
they are aimed at the one rather than the many. I will be taking a new
approach to the way guitars are presented. There are 3 ways to buy a
Custom Shop Leach guitar:
"Naked Canvas Guitar"
- Available in 3 base configurations, all built
with the highest quality materials available
and you fill in the blanks as far as inlays--I can design something for
you based on an idea or sketch, maybe you have a thematic idea that's been
intriguing you, or you can "turn me loose." Each guitar will have one of
my specially designed pearl labels.
"Limited Edition Guitar" -
Another inlay option for the Naked Canvas Guitar. I will be
designing several limited edition inlay patterns exclusively for Custom
Shop guitars. Utilizing the Naked Canvas Guitar, these patterns will be limited to a maximum of 5 copies of
each design. Several of my favorite guitars from the Gallery will be
available here as well (limited to 4 more copies).
Also, here you can find links to our "Limited Series" guitars designed
especially with the Travis enthusiast in mind.
"The Infinite Guitar" -
No limits here. I will be designing
themed guitars that will push the existing boundaries of design and inlay.
The highest quality, most exotic woods available. Extreme
appointments. Out of this world inlay. The uniqueness of these guitars will probably push the boundaries of what
top of the line hand-made guitars have sold for. The purpose of these
guitars is to relieve a burning desire that I have to see just where I can
take the art of inlay. The results will be my legacy, one that I hope you
will share with me. These are one-of a-kind guitars, sold on a first come, first served
