The "Tree" is a Honduran Mahogany that was cut deep in the Chicibul jungle in 1965. The tree is said to have been over 100 feet high and 10 feet in diameter, with the first branch 50 feet off the ground. When it was cut it fell backwards into a deep revine and even when the main log was cut in half it was too big to move. There it lay for 18 years... In 1971 a crew was sent to get the tree, the two sections were quartered and the resulting 8 pieces were hauled 100 miles (!) through the jungle and then floated 70 miles down a river to the sawmill. The yeild was approximately 12000.00 BF of lumber with about 1/3 of that what we now call "The Tree" Most was used a furniture and as mentioned ...paneling!!!! The sets that I have cam from a cabinet maker who happened to be at Handloggers in Northern California when the first shipment arrived, he built a coffee table out of it... which I was more than happy to disassemble and cut into guitar sets...
