Voyage-air Guitar

Using a revolutionary patented neckblock system that allows the neck to fold with the loosening of a single Strap-bolt, the Voyage-air B is a full-size parlor guitar that fits inside a case that meets the carry-on regulations of all major U.S. airlines. For more information on how these limits can effect traveling with Voyage-air please click here.

I got the idea for the Voyage-air because I wanted airline travel to be as worry-free as possible for professional and amateur musicians.  For years I'd heard horror stories (even repaired a few...) about guitars falling from conveyor belts onto unforgiving tarmac and players arriving for their gigs only to find out that their guitars had been sent somewhere else altogether.
Loss of income, anxiety...from the outset of the creative process it was obvious to me that the only way to take the stress out of travel was to make a guitar that could fit into the overhead compartment of any U.S. airline (and easily fit into most vehicle trunks as well).  But my goal was not to create a travel guitar.  I wanted to create a custom-made, high quality instrument that happens to have the added benefit of sitting safely in the overhead bin.  I wanted the guitar to be so good that you wouldn't be leaving your best guitar at home--you'd be taking it with you.   I wanted to design a guitar that could be used for stage performances, for composing, or to just sit and play after a long day of business meetings in a city far away from home.

The original concept for the Voyage-air --because I use bolt-on necks-- was to create a guitar with a removable neck, but I decided against that concept because the player would have to take time to remove the strings and most musicians wouldn't feel comfortable attaching and reattaching a guitar neck.

The only other feasible design was a neck that could fold over the top.

After two years of research and development, I perfected a patented neckblock system, that with the loosening of the strings and loosening of one strap bolt, allows the hinged neck to be safely folded over the instrument's top.   The neck block system is not only lightweight but offers such stability that I now use the design in all of my guitars.

Here's what some fellow players have to say about the Voyage-air:

Endorser Thom Bresh, son of legendary picker Merle Travis:   "Harvey, that little guitar is a 'Kick-Ass' sounding and playing instrument.   You're right, it ain't no toy!...I opened the case, folded the neck down, took the strap button and screwed it into the hole, tuned her up and picked a little bit of 'Blue Smoke'...I'm amazed by the tone."

R.H. from Arizona:  "Well, I've had mine for almost three weeks now, and it's just about become my 'go-to' guitar.  The small, near-parlor body is comfortable and the 13/4" nut width fits my fat fingers well...and I can play for long periods with no cramping...this guitar just plain fits.  Exceptional volume for a small guitar.  I don't know if it's the Claro walnut, but it rivals my Martin HD-28VS and is a little brighter...I'm tickled with it."

For me, being a guitarmaker means creating instruments that take players to the creative places they want to go.  Now, they also have a guitar that goes to the worldly places as well.  No more worries about whether your guitar, your old friend, will be where you need it to be or whether it will arrive in one piece.  It means no more cajoling or negotiating or arguing with airline staff to try and get your guitar into the safety of the cabin.  And it means that those long layovers will be just a bit more enjoyable.
